Do not attempt this. Modern Macs use the Secure Enclave and iBoot. The firmware is cryptographically signed by Apple. If you tamper with the firmware on an M1/M2 Mac, the machine will likely become a "paperweight" that refuses to boot at all because the hardware verification will fail.

The EFI firmware password is an excellent security feature—if you know the password. If you don't, it turns your computer into a very expensive paperweight. Always keep your purchase receipts safe, and if you are selling a Mac, remember to turn off the firmware password before handing it over!
