Meaning: The installed product key is retail or OEM. Fix: Change to a valid GVLK using slmgr /ipk .
An administrator sets up a Windows Server or a Windows 10 (Enterprise/Pro) machine as the KMS host. They install a KMS host key (purchased via a Volume Licensing agreement) and activate it with Microsoft over the internet or by phone.
These GVLKs are pre-installed in volume-licensed media. The client will not activate itself immediately; it waits to find a KMS server.
Volume licensed versions of Windows 10 typically come with Generic Volume License Keys (GVLK) pre-installed. If a machine was previously installed with a retail key, it must be converted back to the GVLK to use KMS.
Type the following command, replacing with the specific GVLK for your edition (e.g., W269N-WFGWX-YVC9B-4J6C9-T83GX for Pro): slmgr /ipk Press and wait for the success message. Set the KMS Server Address Specify the address of your organization's KMS host. Type: slmgr /skms Press Enter . Trigger Activation
